Childs Play, by Tom Holland (not that one) is back and as brilliant as ever. Childs Plays success (both commercial and its huge cult following) has generated a massive 6 sequels, a mini-series and a reboot!
Childs Play stands tall against its 80s brethren with its masterful use of practical effects. Which include multiple radio-controlled animatronics, actors of “short stature” and even child actors to bring the demon doll to life.
Childs Play manages to balance comedy and horror with a brilliant premise directed with subtle silliness. With such a unique feel to this film the Cult of Chucky was born out of the love to hate relationship audiences have with the villain, now star of the series Chucky. A worthy and forever overlooked 80s/90s slasher king who can compete with the big names of the genre.
Childs Play is another classic horror film that was heavily criticized by the public upon release. With protestors claiming it would incite violence within innocent children (real ones not plastic ones). Childs Play has since been “linked” to two separate murder cases in the UK with the controversy still circulating today.
Come pay some respect to the little guys or as Chucky would say “wanna play?”.
